Different cultures have ethnic identity which specifically relates to them. Example suppose your writings, essays, interviews or film was on Mexico. You would have everything from their particular way of life, their personal ways they do things that are different from the tribes who live in the jungles of Africa. The tribes in Africa would have theirs. Perhaps they hunt lions and have writings that protray their life styles. Ethnic identity represents the culture and it's particulars which are uniquely their own.

Ethnic identity is the extent to which one identifies with a particular ethnic group(s). e.g. Indian, Chinese
The question is looking for the ways in which ethnic identity was a decisive aspect of the works of art [writings, essays, interviews, films] you discussed. This is a two-part question and the second part is asking for how ethnic identity relates to the issues of cultural representation.
That's how i interpret the question.
