Go to your local bookstore and look at the drama section. There will be a section with dialects. Choose one with a Tape/DVD that is an actual book--it'll cost around $30.
I can't remember the name of it, but it is great in teaching accents. You can learn everything from Southern to Russian. We're talking anything. It teaches you basic pronouncing tools, and it gives you some great samples of monologues.
Also: buy a tape recorder and record yourself reciting basic lines from your play. You'll be able to hear where you fail and what you should keep up. Also, remember that a true British accent and a stage British accent are two very different things. You have to speak so that the audience can understand.

I am an American and I have heard many different accents from different people who speak English across the world. It sounds funny how British people talk. And they think it is funny how we talk. So just tell him that he is being rude. Like say that I am a Canadian and I speak the way I want to. And you are a British person and you can speak the way you want to freely. So can you please stop making fun of my accent. That's what I tell them. It really works. So I think you should say that too.

if you want the real accent then go to places where real British people hang out like British bars or restaurants. This may sound silly but that's how you learn how the accent really sounds as the people speaking it are not acting or being conscious of what they say you will get the real deal slang and all. good luck i hope you find what you are looking for

Go to http://web.ku.edu/idea/
This is a resource for many actors, and it is basically a big database of dialects from ALL around the world, including each state in the USA. It is completely free, and the dialogue is present on the website so you can read along as they speak and then mimic. Break a leg! Accents are fun. :)

watch some movies in which the actors have Britsih accents. I'd try some dramas and I believe the old Sherlock Holmes movies have British accents. Oh, Wallace and Gromit!!!! That would even be fun.

Well for some SERIOUSLY broken english, watch and mimick some monty python movies (that's how i learned :p). Other than that.. .lots of audio from movies, because there's actually an amalgam of distinct accents that may sound english but may be from another reference such as dutch. May all sound the same but they're not.

Watch a lot of British-made films, and try to pick up the accent. Pause your movie/show and practice what they said.
Try the BBC!
Good luck!
