Yes, you seem to have a lot of good replies to read from. Keep in mind that fruit flies are quite harmless and no doubt you have probably eaten many or their eggs in the fruits you have eaten. The adult flies lay their eggs in the skin or peel of fresh fruit. They are not poisonous. Since fruit flies are warm climate insects, fruits ripened in the north like apples and pears will contain less eggs than fruits like cherries plums and peaches that can be grown further south. Tropical fruits like oranges and bananas contain amazing numbers of fruit fly eggs. fortunately, these fruits have thicker peels and thats where the eggs are. Peeling the fruit removes them. In either case, it's important to remember that its better to eat a few fruitfly eggs that are not poisonous than to eat fruit sprayed with insecticide which is poisonous. If you have noticed fruitflies in your home, consider whether you have had ripening oranges or bananas in the house.
If you haven't you may be seeing something other than fruit flies.
Fungus gnats and thrips are often confused with the real fruit fly or Drosophila. Fungus gnats, are brought into the home with potted plants and are more of a visual nusance than anything else. They live harmlessly off the moist potting material of ur house plants. Thrips however are a real problem to ur houseplants as they lay their eggs in the leaves and plant tissues of ur houseplants doing a lot of damage to ur plants. For both of these pests try using that sticky fly paper near ur plants to trap them.

"Fruit fly" is one of the common names of the genus of flies called "drosophila." They are very short-lived, and many generations can be hatched in a very short time. They are attracted to fruit and other sweet things, thus the common name. Becuase it's so easy to get lots of generations of these little flies, they are often used in a variety of types of research.

I am a scientist that use to work with fruit flies. They are harmless. To get rid of them, put out a couple bowls of apple cider vinegar. The flies are attracted to this stuff, so they will get caught in it. If you keep food picked up for awhile and trap them, they should hopefully not be a problem soon. Good luck. In regards to killing them in the fridge and microwave, neither of these should work. The only way to kill them with cold is to freeze them for long periods of time. This is probably the same with heat (microwave not hot enough).
