The schools today are more into Indoctrination then Education and they wonder why test scores are low.
The education system is messing up the moral fiber of America. Subverting the teaching of parents and church.
Politically correct and historically stupid.

Your question really only allows for blanket staements. Just by reading the replies I can see there isn't even a common agreement on what "political correctness" is. It seems to basically be "whatever policy I don't like".
You need to get away from the buzz words, which just make us all dumber, and discuss the issues themselves on their own merits. If you don't like certain things being taught in the school, you can home school, you can protest to the school board, or you can ask that your child be excused on the day of instruction in the offensive subject.
You could also talk (not shout) to some of the people who support the "politically correct" positions you dislike. You might not change each other's minds, but at least you both might see where the other is coming from. For example, in my office some people are mad because the office party in december is called a "holiday party" instead of a "christmas party". Well, to them it is political correctness, but there are several Jews, a couple of atheists, and some other religions in my office. Would these same critics feel okay if we called it a hannukah party or a "susperstition day" party? Another example: in my office this one guy complains about "feminists" and their PC ways, but then he goes out of his way to make offensive comments, which virtually garentees more PC rules and complaints.
All I'm saying is that while being "PC" can be taken too far, there usually is a reason behind it, and you have to look at each situation seperately.

No because it violates first amendment rights. The government should have no say as to what people can say or think. Political correctness is just a folkway and tolerance of other peoples cultures is just a maturity issue. Political correctness and tolerance to other peoples cultures is reenforced through text books and videos kids read and watch in school.

I'm not sure where you live, but I am surrounded by all sorts of people from different cultures. Kids need to learn that everyone should be valued and respected. I didn't say accepted. If there is someone or something you don't like, you don't have to approve of it or participate, but you'd better afford them the same rights you have. It's not about being PC; it's about learning to get along in a more and more diverse culture.

The thing is, and this is my opinion, that for the longest time, our education system has ignored the needs and/or the histories of certain cultural groups in this country.
Its not about being politically correct, its about starting to overturn 200 years of bigotry and finally teach our kids that we may all be different, but we can all get along.
It may sound wishy washy and philosphical, but you asked for non-blanket statements and this is my answer.

Political Correctness offends the majority to cater to the minority. There is common decency and respect, and then there are legalistic rules that are partly based out of fear created by people on a power trip. Accepting or tolerating everything as OK whitewashes reality and muddies the line between right and wrong. People are not going to change simply because you tell them to.

You are right, liberals hijacked the education system years ago and you see the result.
The book you mentioned will be required reading any day.
Homosexuality must be shoved down our throats.
Liberals say so.

I agree, I think this political correctness is out of control. What happened to free speech. Why do we have to tip-toe around gays and atheists and so on. It really makes me mad. I am a Christian and it seems like everybody is ok with making fun of Christianity and Jesus, but if I so one comment about how I don't like homo's everybody throws a fit. I say throw political correctness out the window.

Political Correctness is the devil's tool, and I hate it. I teach my kid certain values, and then they go to school and get taught exactly the opposite. Why can't WE THE PARENTS take control of our schools again?
