Advantages-you are closer to services.
Disadvantages-you are closer to everyone else.

I live exactly 15 minutes from a small town. I love where I live, my home is in a peaceful place that I wouldn't trade for living closer to town, at all. There is more crime in town, more noise, more crummy people...etc., etc. 15 minutes is not far at all.

I've lived in small towns, big towns, and the country.

Advantages to small towns:
Less fears of crime
People look out for each other
Usually at least one gas station for the essentials inbetween trips to bigger nearby town
Costs of housing seems to get lower the farther away from the nearest bigger town

Disadvantages of small towns:
Gossip!!!
You can feel like an outsider even yrs after moving in
Costs at the gas stations are pretty high
GAS to get to the nearest big town (like if you work there or need something)
School systems sometimes not as good as in bigger towns

Advantages of country:
PRIVACY!!!

Disadvantages of country:
Isolated in case of emergency
Need to take a trip even to get a candy bar or pop from the store
Places don't deliver :(

Personally I prefer living in a bigger city to both small towns & the country because it's just so much more convenient. I did not really enjoy living in the country due to the hassle of needing to take a trip no matter where I wanted to go. Small towns can be nice, especially those where there are other new people being attracted to the area & you arent the only newcomer.

Good luck!

I live in a growing suburb and it's great. If you want diversity go for a bigger town, Smaller conservative town go to a smaller town. It depends on your prefrence. Larger towns are more competitive and expensive but smaller towns can also be nosy and very conservative.
