Control the defensvie playcalling, after the defensive line pushes the Guards and the Tackles off the play he goes in and gets the ball carrier. Depending on what kind of package they are in hell play zone coverage in the seam between the safties and the d-line or play man on a tightend or running back trying to sneak into the flat if they are running a pro set or some kind of spread offense that the defense wasnt ready for.

What doesn't the middle linebacker do would be a shorter answer. They run the defense. They make shure everyone is lined up right on the defense. They make the defensive calls. They stuff the running game in the middle. They make shure no receiver gets open in the middle of the field. Generally they are the teams leading tackler and a leader of the football team.
