I have dull headaches that linger and I would like to get rid of them.
I'm not 100% sure I am pregnant yet (taking a test tomorrow) but I just want to know before hand
I am a little nervous now though bc i thook 2 ibu this morning without thinking about it bc it didn't say that it was unsafe on the bottle! I'm a little worried.

No. You are not supposed to take anything but Tylenol/acetaminophen plain or extra strength only. Ibuprofen(Advil) is NOT the same as Tylenol, obviously due to the different drug names. Aspirin is also not acceptable because it thins your blood. Ibuprofen tends to cause problems with bleeding during labor and possibilities of blood not clotting correctly. Check with your doctor before taking any medication while pregnant though.
EDIT: I just came back to the question and read your additional details. Don't worry if you took some earlier today. Since you are not even sure you are pregnant I wouldn't worry about it. Look at all the people who mistakenly drink before they find out the are pregnant. It's not going to hurt anything if you took some today and this early on. If you are still concerned about it if you find out you are for sure pregnant, talk to your doctor or midwife and they will help to calm your nerves. But if you are TTC, I would go out and buy some Tylenol to keep on hand just in case. And now you also know that the only thing you can take is Tylenol. Good luck! Let us know what you find out or at least me!

No you can't take Ibuprofen. You can take Tylenol they are not the same thing. Ibuprofen is an antiinflamitory and a pain killer and can interfer with the baby's nervous system and cause problems to the baby's liver. Tylenol is actemeniphin an safe for pregnancy. If you need a more in depth answer on how the 2 affect your system ask you OBGYN to explain it at your next visit. Best wishes.

It is considered safe to take ibuprofen while in your first or second trimester. However it is safer to take tylenol for many reasons.
Taking ibuprofen during your third trimester can cause fetal death:
"That's because this painkiller, like all nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) taken after 32 weeks of pregnancy, can cause the opening between the major arteries in your baby's heart to close prematurely. "
It is always safest to avoid drugs of any kind whenever possible though. I had a major ibuprofen habit before I got pregnant, I took it almost every night before bed for aches and pains. I gave it up and I have no regrets even though I can not take aspirin and tylenol gives me a really bad taste in my mouth (for hours, it is some sorta weird side effect)
Why do you want to take ibuprofen? (Just wondering).

No, you should not, and the reason is that it causes birth defects, according to my OB/GYN. It is especially dangerous during the third trimester but they recommend avoiding at all times. There are even some studies that imply ibuprofen could cause miscarriage during the first trimester.
If tylenol doesn't do the job, ask your doc for an alternative; I am 5 months along and take a prescription pain killer for my back pain.

Jeff2smart's>>>Ibuprofen is not Tylenol, Dummy!
Ibuprofen is Advil or Motrin
Acetaminophen is Tylenol.
Do NOT take Ibuprofen when pregnant.
Acetaminophen or Tylenol is the only pain reliever you can safely take when pregnant. Even then you should check with your doctor just in case there are other drug interactions, or reasons that we here are unaware of that would be contraindicating.

Ibuprofen (plus all other NSAIDs) block the synthesis of a class of compounds called prostaglandins. Although they are involved in inflammation and pain, they have other roles. The single most dangerous consequence (and I don't want too scare you too much since it is not a given that it will happen) is premature closure of the ductus arteriosus, a vessel necessary for fetal circulation which closes shortly after birth.

I pretty sure you're not supposed to take ibruprofen while you are pregnant. When I was pregnant the doc told me to only take tylenol, no ibruprofen. The best advice is to ask your doc to find out for sure.
BTW--ibruprofen is NOT tylenol. The non-name brand for Tylenol is acetamenophin. Ibruprofen is the non-name brand for Motrin, Advil.

You probably shouldn't take it. But if you have a question about what to do while you are pregnant, call and ask you doctor. You are paying that man and his staff enough to be able to ask whatever you want. Take extra care of yourself! Good luck and God bless you.
