If your transmission is leaking in the bell housing ( the front of the trany connects to the engine ) the n its a major repair or your torque converter may also be leaking its also in your bell housing not to expensive but you will have to pull the tranny or engine ( tranny probably easier) but if its leaking from the pan it would be a cheap fix or the tail shaft housing rear of tranny seal on rear wheel drive, but on front wheel drive its gonna be spendy any way you look at it. But in whatever the case the only thing you can do is have another seal put in or gasket . sealing with silicone might get you by for a while but eventually the heat and oil will eat it away.

Transmission Leak

IF it is leaking where the casing fits up against the engine you will need a new seal. They will drop the transmission and replace the seal. If it is an automatic, I believe the oil is red. If it is a standard transmission then the oil will be same color as regular oil. There is no easy fix for a seal leak that I know of. It requires a seal replacement.

A little added information for you. If you ever decide you need a "new transmission" , I think it is better to get the transmission you have rebuilt. I prefer holding on to the casing that you already have that fits so nicely up against your engine. Easier to get a good seal when you put the new seal in because the metals have already been heated up and fit snug together. Saves you the problem of leaks later.

That's a hard one to answer. It depends on where the leak is coming from. If it's an automatic, and it's operating properly, then you might be able to get away with a minor leak for awhile. Just don't let the trans fluid get too low. If it's leaking at the rear of the trans where the drive shaft connects to it, then it probably wouldn't be a very expensive repair.

depends where it is leaking, maybe just tightning the transmission line nut might do it if that is what it is or it could be a seal that needs replaced, it all depends whats leaking and you won't know until you get underneath it and look.

it depends where the oil is leaking from.

it could be just something simple like sealing or it could be leaking from inside the transmission control, which requires u to go to the mechanic shop. so it really could be both.

good luck with it...

depends where its leaking at.if its the front seal, then you got to drop the tranny and put a new 1 in,but if its the pan just drop it and put a new gasket on it.if its the rear seal, you got to take the drive axle out and put a new seal in it.
