I recieved a letter from this program to go to England, Wales, & Ireland this summer (2007). [I am 16 years old/female].

Is anyone else going to Europe this summer?!

Has anyone gone on any People to People trips? To where? How much did it cost? Was it worth the $$$?

I'm a little ambivalent because I'm not sure if it's just a scam or what. Or if it's worth the money. I've heard mostly good things but still...

My mom is making me pay for the entire thing and I really don't wanna get ripped off.

=] Thank you muchly

I went on that trip in 2005. I had a blast. You get to do things like repelling off the side of a castle, meet a member of Parliament, and much more. It costs around $5400. They give a lot of fund raising suggestions. I know one girl who raised about $7000. I would definitely say you should go. I had so much fun I am going to Italy, France, Austria and Switzerland in 2007.

Hi, it is not a scam.. I got a invitation last summer to go to France, Italy, Swizterland, and Austria.. At first I thought it was a scam, so i decided to go to the information meetings. It turned out it wasnt! The average cost is 5,399 dollars that is most of the european program.. I went and had a BLAST! It was the best time of my life. I have the site below which should answer all of your questions. I am applying to go again, for Exploring Western europe. Go to the Information meetings.. I made so many friends and will always cherish the memories i made from the trip last summer. Go, you wont regret this... Just do fundraisers from now until june.. The last trip we left on July 3rd and came back on the 24th... I had so much fun.. email me if u have any questions.. Alohaforever16@yahoo.com.. CIAO! Good luck and happy traveling!
another thing, It was so safe, you have adults there all the time, they made sure that you were safe. I know because in austria I fell off a bike and banged my knee really bad, and i was miles and miles away from home.. They did everything they could to help.. Another thing I am deaf, and my hearing aid broke and the leaders found a place in austria that fixed it for me, for no charge! I was so greatfull.. Go and you will have a blast!

I went on that trip last summer. It was pretty pricey. I think with the fuel surcharge the airline put on it ended up costing at least $5,500. It's not a scam they do send you to those places but the "ambassador" title isn't exactly accurate. It is more tourism than anything. If you want me to tell of my adventures then just send me an email at my username at yahoo or gmail.com. I also have pictures if you want to make sure I'm telling the truth.

Other than knowing that it is a legitimate organization, I don't know much about People to People. Both of my sons have been invited on those types of trips, as well as the CYLC and others that meet in the U.S. (ie youth leadership conferences, etc.) In general, I'm sure these are fun, interesting, educational, good for your development, good for your high school transcript re: applying to college. You should ask them for previous attendees that you can speak with about that particular organization. If you're paying, you'll really want to be sure that it's something you want to do and is worth it.
