A lot of 80s music was crap (though it can be enjoyably crappy).

Some of it is genius. You have to appreciate the way bands took primitive keyboard synthesizers and drum machines and crafted beautiful, catchy pop songs out of them.

I love Duran Duran, a-ha, A Flock of Seagulls, the Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, Tears for Fears, the Go-Go's, Berlin.

Genius music.

I totally agree =] ! I love New Wave, Electro, 80s Alternative, etc... a lot of synth based music, really. And Depeche Mode are my favourite band by far (love a lot of the other bands you mentioned too, esp. DD). But unfortunately a lot of 80s music gets dismissed way too quickly by a lot of people... which is a shame. Like you say, a lot of it is really unique & innovative. I think so anyway.

Well not by everyone... I'm 16, so I wasn't even alive during the 80s. :)

I love the music from the 70's and the 80's. Unlike the music today you could understand the words to the songs and they made sense. I tell my kids when they complain when I listen to my music of choice, which by the way is now considered classic, lol. But I tell them that it's because of the entertainer then, that the way was paved for what they listen to today. And of course I have to then share my opinion to them of what I think of the music they listen to.

Oh yeah.

Look what Siouxsie, Joan Jett, and Chrissie Hynde did for female vocalists: took them from "I love you, I honestly love you" to "I hate these people staring make them go away from me."

80's music rocks. Even the pop: Look at Howard Jones. Twenty years haven't made his messages anything less than moderately alternative, even in California.

I like the Heavy Metal wave more. Favorite band from it is Iron Maiden. I'm not familiar with 2 tone ska, so i have no idea what bands those are.

I agree with you. But then I was in high school in the 80's, and well, you know. The music from that time in ones life always sticks with you.

I adore U2 as well, although I admit they transcend decades.

There's something weird about the 80's. Fashion, music, Bob Hawke. They were all good at the time but you kind of want to forget about them.

You know who else I remember as before their time was Jesus Jones. Unless they were more at the beginning of the 90's. Also Mars (I don't remember how it was spelled) Pump Up The Volume was so different.
