is anything else running on the laptop when you play the dvd? Could be your processor and or memory can't keep up with the dvd. Does the DVD play normally on a regular dvd player? if yes, then the problem is with the laptop and I would take it back . Without knowing your processor speed and memory that's the best advice I can give you.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

You might want to open the device manager and check it out there

If you didn't get at least 1GB of memory, large movies will tend to be glitchy.
