I've asked on THIS site before, and everyone said it was a boy's name. Could I get away with naming a female character that name? Maybe since it's so far in the future it would be believable? Or should I stick with a name accepted by all as feminine?
I really, really like the name Sage, and it's meaning is Prophet- perfect for the name of the girl who is going to predict the downfall of her city.
What do you think?

According to http://www.behindthename.com :

SAGE
Gender: Feminine & Masculine

Usage: English

Pronounced: SAYJ [key]

From the English word, which denotes either a type of spice or else a wise person.

I say go ahead and use it for your female character. When I hear the name Sage it makes me think of a wise woman with a spicy personality.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I personally know a young lady (21) whose given names are Syanna Sage. I think it's a beautiful girl's name. The only other time's I've heard this name it was also a girl. So, I'm not sure where other's are getting that it's a boy's name because I have personally never heard it.

Yes, and who gives a care.. Pink is a colour, but the singer is making LOADS of money having it. Sage is an amazing herb that I grown and cook with often - and quite frankly, to me it sounds more feminine.

I have grown up with many girls with boy names.. Toni - Bobby - you name it.. and these days - who cares, writing a story in itself is an art - so name your character to what you believe will fit the character not the sex. I love Sage (the name).

Sage is kind of pretty. I could see it on a girl, but I like Paige better. Go ahead and use it for your character because it does seem to fit if she is able to predict things.
