I waited about 3 months to change mine. It depends on how long it takes to heal, so you don't open it up again. When it's not sore, you have no dripping/drainage, and it is not red or looks open, go ahead. Be careful taking the piercing out if it is the screw type. It's easier to put a finger (I know, gross) into your nose to make sure you are working it out correctly. I put a nose bone (straight rod) rather than a screw in for my new one and like it so much better than the screw.

Ooh, it's been awhile. If I remember correctly, you need to keep cleaning it for a good three to six months, and you can change it after... six months to a year? Cartilage piercings take freakin' forever to heal, and your nose will not take to a piercing like your ears will. So, whatever you do, do NOT leave your piercing out for very long, or the hole will close up. By very long, I'm talking hours. If you can't wear it at work, get a retainer.

I really dont have any idea..But i do know that after you get your ears pierced or your belly-button pierced you have to wait like 2 weeks to a month to change out the rings. so maybe it applies to nose rings too. hope it helps. =)
