It seems kind of messed up because cigarrettes are way more harmful to the body, and they are addictive.

The fact that cigarette smoking is addictive, while Pot is not, makes it more harmul to the body, Leroy Johnson. An weekly joint compared to several cigs a day is much less harmful. That's just my opinion though so don't go all crazy on me.

I agree with the fact that smoking a joint impairs your judgement. But in a controlled environment, in a responsible way, smoking a joint is not dangerous in that regard, I would think.

You need to check your research (Oh, you didn't do any? Wow); marijuana is far more harmful than tobacco. Just the smoke alone is way more detrimental to your body than conventional cigarettes. And furthermore, pot impairs your judgement; tobacco does not. Personally I don't care if marijuana is legalized, but to say cigarettes are more harmful is just foolish, which would make sense, since you're a fool. But why am I even telling you this? You'll just Best Answer whoever agrees with you the most, regardless of how convincing their answer even is.

I agree - I reckon the world would be a better place if pot was legal and tobacco illegal. Having said that, I would hate to see grass sold at the local 7-11.
I assume the difference in the eyes of the law is that you can smoke a dozen cigs and still be reasonably in control. Smoke too much pot and you become intoxicated by it.
Which begs the question - why is alcohol legal but pot is illegal?
Maybe it's because the governments of the world make billions of dollars by taxing tobacco and alcohol...

How would you like your police, home builders, firemen all high from pot? It alters your mind and changes you like alcohol, that is why it is used for some health diseases, not a cigarette. But yes the tobacco is very addictive. 35 years of smoking and open heart surgery proves it does.

Because tobacco became popular before people understood the health risks and it's now a billion dollar industry. Also, the ignorant people who believe pot is a 'gateway drug' which will lead to 'harder' drugs. I don't know about you, but when I got high, I just wanted to eat and watch tv, not go out and score some heroin.

This is true. I think it all comes down to economics. Marijuana is so easy to grow and harvest by oneself that legalizing it wouldn't really do the economy all that much good. Tobacco companies on the other hand, bring in billions.

Because tobacco is taxed and the industry supports a lot of politicians and their campaigns to get them into Washington so that they can't enforce legislation that would destroy their business.
The government hasn't found a way to tax marijuana.

They should make marijuana legal so they can tax it the way they tax tobacco and alcohol.
