The first rule to writing research papers is to know your research (the ins and outs of it) before trying to write it up. Read everything you have it. Scholarly assessments/reviews, background information, any possible interviews with the author, etc. Then brainstorm what central message you want to say about the book. Besides the two paragraph summary of course. Is there a particular point you want to stress? Part of your problem could be you have so much information making so many different points that you don't know what to include or not in your own paper. So finding what you want to be your main emphasis or thesis should be the first step. Then find quotes to support that thesis statement. That should help you know what to include and how to write it up in a logical way.
