cats, i can't get - my older bothers allergic
my mom had a turtle when she was young, but it was a mini one, she says they contract samonella, but my 5th grade teacher had one. maybe not another hamster, for they can be evil [not my first one]
i was going to get a chinchilla after my first one died, but i was afraid to hold it, and i was told if you pet them too much, their hair will start to fall.
((i want a pet that will be gentle))

you have 4 dogs? are you responsible for them?feed them?water them?take them on walks?Do you pay for their shots? Are they all either spayed or nurtured?Have you taught them any tricks?do you keep them clean?Do you control their fleas?Do you clean up all messes they make?If not-Mom may be basing her NO vote on these things.
Hamsters can be very hard to keep alive. If their bedding gets wet, they get sick.Too much or not enough to eat will kill them too.So will being placed in a drafty place. Also, they can get fleas from the dogs-which can kill them.
Best pet I ever had has an indoor caged animal was an iguana. But be sure you research their care BEFORE you get one. They do cost to set up.They do carry salmonella. But if you keep them something to swim in,and keep the water in it clean, they do well. And you have to wash your hands before and after handling them. But they are quiet, and once tame, actually very loving.(by the way-I'm 44,not a kid)

First about your hampster. No offense to you or your beloved pet, but they are very delicate creatures and can affected by things that humans don't even think off. Also, if you recently got her, she may have contracted something at the pet store (if that's where you got her from) because they often do not take very good care of their animals. I don't know how often you cleaned your hamster's cage but I clean my two gerbils's cages every 3-4 weeks and they are both over 3 years old. So unless you waited two months between each cleaning that probably wasn't the issue.
As for having too many pets, it's not possible! I myself have 2 gerbils 2 guinea pigs 2 rabbits and a cat and I have never been happier. My parents on the other hand are a different story but they haven't refused any species so far and I am very greatful!
Another hampster or gerbils is always a possibility because they are cheap and easy to take care of as you probably know.
A cat is always nice because they use a litter box and are reletivly quiet (as in they don't bark like dogs) and are socialble life long friends.
Guinea pigs are another option. Again, pretty cheap - don't require many vet trips and easy to care for, you need to clean their cage about twice a week (for two of them so if you get one then only once a week). The only thing is that they squeel whenever they want food or attention and it can be quite annoying.
Rabbits are also very loving and smart and funnt but require a lot more money (annual vet checkups and hay) and attention and care. They need a lot of space to run around, ie. a large cage and freedom of your house although they can be easily litter trained. So I highly reccomend rabbits if you are ambitious.
Any pet you get will give you love and joy as long as you take care of it and are responsible. Good Luck!

get one of those Beta (spelling) fish.
They come in all sorts of pretty colors, and usually cost less that 8 dollars.
all you have to get them is a small tank, and i have heard they are easy to take care of
don't get more than one!
they're fighting fish, and they will kill each other.
But do mess with them. put a mirror on one side of the cage, because it'll think there is another fish, and make it's fins all flare out, and it's sooo much prettier like that.
But otherwise just have fun with your dogs.
I wish i coul dget one more pet, and i only have one dog, and one cat
i want another kitten so bad.
But my mom said no.
SO i dropped it.
hope everything works out!

It seems that you don't really know how to take care of a pet. I suggest you to buy a tamagotchi is a kind of toy game where you can choose which kind of pets you want to feed and you have to clean its waste and give it injection, exercise, food. If you do not take care well, it will die. Just like real pet. If you can suceed in the game, then you will know you are ready for the new pet!

Chinchilla's don't loose their hair when you pet them. Mine would be bald by now as my 2 kids handle them twice a day. They will drop fur if they are scared it is a defense mechanism. Our kit who is almost 4 months old is very cuddly... he sleeps in the kids shirts while they watch TV. But he loves to run and be free, which means chewing and pooing. We have chinproofed one room and give him toys to keep him from chewing things he isn't supposed to.

OK you dont need a pet, your mother does. Get her a parrot bird. If you like sweet then a Cockatoo. If you like it to talk then an African grey. They will bond with her and love it forever. Then your ready for your next pet.

Maybe you should not get another pet right now and just enjoy your 4 dogs!

I would think four dogs would be enough to take care of. Take more time and teach them tricks.
