Do u remember how it was when u first embarked on your major career? How has it been?
How old r u now? How much do u earn?
I am a fashion graduated (specialised in buying and merchandising) in 2005, I took a year out and now am soon going to begin on a short course - post grad certificate with internship in January (the whole experience is just 24 weeks!) I am also planning to move out! (my folks aren’t too keen on that) I am so excited!! : ) but now, some how am feeling sick with nerves! This is a big change and opportunity for me…
I am naturally talented and very passionate about buying! I also have confident skills and good experience but have got too nervous - which has never happened before.

Congratulations on your educational achievements!!
Keep it up!!!

I have had many careers, including nontraditional work.
Was a secretary with federal government, then a
legal assistant/secretary, massage therapist, and now
executive administrative assistant with a major corporation.
I turn 50 in December.

Your natural talents and passion for your line of work will
help guarantee your success. Practice deep breathing
and relaxation techniques which you can use during
the daytime when in situations of stress as well as
in evening when you unwind. Perform stretching
exercises frequently throughout the day. Avoid caffeine
and other nerve-stimulators. Practice self-affirmations
and visualization exercises. Read motivational books
about career success to inspire and encourage you.

Nervousness is natural. Even at my latest job, I was
extremely nervous the first few weeks, despite my
having years of experience. Some people are just
more naturally nervous than others (more sensitive,
more self-conscious).

Avoid negative thoughts and counter them with positive
self-talk and thoughts. If you catch yourself thinking to
yourself "oh, I'm so nervous" then counter with a thought
that says "STOP! You have every reason to be calm
and confident."

Wanting to move out to experience self autonomy is
a sign of maturity. Your parents should encourage it,
if you can afford it.

Best wishes!

What your going thru is normal.
I graduated in 2002 in an engineer field (wnt bore you with details)
I took 9 months out, but boy was I ready for working life.
Nerves happens, as you are about to start what will be the most important part of your life. What you do now will be around with you for the next 30 to 40 years.
you'll no doubt be asking "are you up to it?"
Well you ARE, if you were not you would not of got this far.
Enjoy your short course, it should be setting you up for the years ahead.
The only advice I can give is, If your not sure, ask!. Don't start at your new company thinking you know it all, cos you simple will not. Use the experience around you to your advantage.

There is not a stupid question, just a stupid person who does not ask.

It goes without saying, you wont like everyone you come in contact with. its best not to try.

You will learn more in the next few years, then any university course can teach you.

Go with the flow and enjoy the high and lows.
its your passion that will get you what you will become.

enjoy working life, oh and enjoy the income tax payments!

:o)

Good for you! When you are nervous, excited, frightened etc it means you are a person powerfully in ACTION creating possibility for yourself and your life!!! That is huge! You see not knowing what the outcome right now "looks like" is scary. Most people never take action towards what inspires them because they are hung up on trying to predict the outcome! I am a VP in management with a company for 16 yrs (38 yrs old). When you hear the phrase "knowledge is power", most persons make this mean knowledge as it relates to the job, product, company etc. That is powerful, yet consider this advice. Knowledge of people as powerful! All people crave to feel heard and acknowledged. Really get that! Always make sure you leave people having been heard by you. (i.e this is what I'm hearing, is that what you meant?) Always acknowledge persons and be certain it is authentic.
Hear and acknowledge ALL people. The receptionist, mailman, boss, co-worker, people in other depts. everyone.
Create RELATEDNESS as a possibility for yourself and your life that transforms who you "show up as" for people, a person being a powerful leader!

Enjoy it and don't stay too long at any one employer - you'll know when the time's right so move on. Also, beware of office politics - don't naively think that everyone who smiles at you likes you. There will be people actively stabbing you in the back but it does not mean you have to do the same!!
