A friend of mine wants to upgrade his Windows software and mentioned that he'll probably just go to the torrents and download a version. I told him that this might be a bad idea since legal issues aside, the versions might have hidden 'bots or backdoors allowing users to hack his system. Is downloading software like this a bad idea (even if thoroughly virus scanned)????

If using Torrents check how many have 100% of the files, the more people have downloaded the file, the more likely the file will be OK.
Don't do what I did once, and download only to find 80 people had 83% of the file, and only 1 had 100%..............lol

yes it is a bad idea windows is getting harder and harder to crack / steal there is several bit torrents but 90 % have several backdoors set up in them if its xp home or pro message me and we will talk in more detail some time spirit_wolfe_17 is my id ty

the chance it's 50% : = it might have or it might not :D. Every one it's using pnp and sharing programs like bit torent. if ur paranioc after downloading ur program do a antivirus scan
