In light of tendencies for some white people to be racist, what do you think of the growing population of Latin Americans? Do you share the same comraderie with Latinos/Hispanics as you do with your African American friends, or are they just like other lighter skinned people to you? Or is it something different? Any thoughts you can give on this subject would be much appreicated. : )

EDIT
I think my question may have been misunderstood. I didn't mean for it to be offensive at all. I'll give an example of what I'm trying to convey:
I once had a conversation with a man who identified himself as African American who explained that he felt a sort of comraderieship with latinos that he didn't feel with typical white Americans because both etnicities are discriminated against. I met another African American who told me she thought Hispanics needed to go back home and then named many reasons why; ultimately she felt no more welcome among a party of Hispanics as among whites. Now your view

I was wondering what the consensus opinion was. The fact that some Hispanics are darker than some African Americans is besides the point, I just wanted to know your views of the whole matter in terms of ethnic identities.

Whoa! This is so loaded! In my time, I've come in contact with two types of "hispanics"(for a real bad lack of a better word. I've met those that have true "orgullo" in being who they are and I've met those that keep pushing the "Hispanics are Caucasians" envelope. I've met latinos y latinas with darker skin and nappier hair than mine that were more racist than any WASP I've come into contact with. It's more embarrassing than infuriating. I have this same experience with some Indian people.

I enjoy the Puerto Rican culture in particular and respect them because their political history is one to honor.

As far as the growing population of Latin Americans goes: It has its positives and negatives. Seeing a hundred Mexicans and Peruvians on the side of the train tracks waiting for work is disheartening. I just hope that they keep up their hope and persevere.

Well some Latinos are Black and call themselves Afro-Latinos. I have a variety of friends and yes some are Latino and we get along not because we're both people of color but because we share some internal common interest.

they are what they are...latinos or hispanics...whats your point. also for the record there are lots of hispanics/latinos that are darker than lots of black people. so there is no 'other lighter skinned people'
