I have interests, I don't want to enroll in some university or the college simply doesn't offer it, so I read about it. My supervisor and boss thinks that is weird. Is it?

nah - not weird - people have forgotten how to be autodidactic these days, that's all.
I dont fully read text books - but certainly do read bits that I am interested in.
Libraries are full of interesting text books.
Then there are enclycopaedias - a great browse to find interesting stuff.
I also enjoy a browse through dictionaries.
And of course - we all spend time trolling through the internet - just a different way of doing extracurricula reading.....

If i have an interest in the topic area.

If i need the information from within the book for another class or paper.

If i am looking to expand upon information from other classes or sources.

Those are about the only times I personally would.

In college I took historical Greek which led me to verify countless information that went into what human beings now call the bible. Which led me to learn Hebrew and extra comparable information. This led me to the fairly some early Latin translations of those self same information. by potential of the time i ended college I had examine a competent area of what replaced into accessible of the unique texts of the 'bible'. Later I examine the King James version and my first reaction replaced into the place have been the information that I had examine in college? What i found replaced right into a remarkably biased and incorrect translation of information that are very metaphoric. something human beings could understand is which you will no longer eliminate metaphors from their ecosystem without changing their meaning. in case you desire to be attentive to what's interior the bible you are able to examine the unique as properly as different information that are contemporary to it otherwise the unique meaning is misplaced. in case you haven't any longer examine the unique information you quite have in no way examine the bible.

Not at all. It's been some time since I've had anatomy, but I have started looking into some texts because my current workload will be improved, if I were to take that first step!

Go for it:-)

Rational, renaissance thinking does not hail from group learning, only from personal study. Whatever rational thought we glean while in school occurs while we are privately studying. Whatever critical-thinking skills we develop derive from objective hands-on experience. Self study is the only way we become truly "educated".
