Aren't all horror movies about survival? I mean, why do people call movies survival horror and call any other movies horror? They are both the same! And Rest Stop unfortunately, sucks as both a horror film and a survival horror film. Rest Stop is about two lovers(Jess and Nicole) are on a road trip to fulfill their dreams; they stop at a rest stop and while Nicole goes in the rest stop, Jess vanishes in thin air and Nicole is left alone..or so she thinks. A demented killer is lurking around in his yellow pick-up truck who just wants to have some deadly fun with Nicole. The cat-and-mouse game begins and oh, do we ever want it to stop!

The story is definitely not exciting for anyone who likes the horror genre. Actually, I can't see how the idea could bring anyone to actually start a movie with it. It's a dull story and Rest Stop makes the story seem excellent compared to the movie itself. Rest Stop had a chance in the beginning of this film. It started off really creepy and perverted, but the movie's chance slimmed down as the movie began to play it's game of cat and mouse between Nicole and the mysterious killer. Non-stop games that are predictable, dull and simply not enjoyable. For example, Nicole sees the yellow pick-up truck and runs in the restroom. The killer is gone after a few minutes and does what he does(f*ck with her mind). This is basically all that happens and Nicole is in the restroom a lot in this film. *SPOILER* You know the person that helps Nicole is going to die*SPOILER END*. To top that off, they even added a demented family that is way too looney for any normal family(Texas Chainsaw Massacre anyone?)

If I think I could label this movie, I'd think drama would fit. There is absolutely no suspense in this movie and actually, this movie hardly feels anything like a horror film. There is way too many key moments in this movie that feels dramatic. Although, some will disagree with me. I know there is blood in this movie and violence and all that horror stuff, but the movie feels so much like a drama. You'll get a finger cut off, blood splatter, gunshot wounds; it's not gory for an unrated version. I doubt if there was more blood, the movie will still be boring as hell.

The acting isn't that great, but far better than the other really low budget movies I've seen. Jaimie Alexander is the lead and she plays Nicole. She did fairly well and Joey Lawrence plays Jess and he literally stinks in this movie. The killer, Joey Mendicino, well his role doesn't have much acting involved except driving. The special effects are pretty good, surprisingly well done by the budget. The script which was written by the director John Shiban, did a decent job on the script. It's pretty basic because the characters hardly go far from the rest stop resulting not much action. The directing isn't nothing special either. It's very basic, creating a few good shots, but everything has been seen before.

Rest Stop was supposed to be a shocking film, making each twist and turn even more shocking than the last, but I beg to differ. This is so bad, it's shocking that it got made! The story is way too boring, the movie itself is dull and predictable with things you've seen in other movies and everything in this movie just doesn't work at all to create a good horror movie to watch, not even a decent one at that. The cover may look inviting, but looks are deceiving and movies like this proves that!

Australia was the latest. . . I loved Pulp Fiction and I don't like violence. I took the whole thing as a satire on stupidity and it got me through all the violence. One of my favorite lines is when the guy in the restaurant holds up Travolta and Jackson, the really bad guys, and Jackson eventually asks him for his wallet back and the lesser bad guy wants to know how to identify it. Can't explain here because that language is bad but that was so ridiculous, I just laughed. The whole thing was just funny. . .to me anyway. And this brings to mind another disappointment. . .The Departed. What a waste of talent and I was insulted when the rat had to run across the railing. Hadn't everyone realized the theme was everyone is a rat? How stupid. So I am waiting for The Reader to get here. I hope that is better.

I've seen it and it sucked. It's just a poor structured, badly executed ghost story that lacks any logic and sense of reality to the highest degree. It's one thing to make a ghost story with a psychological twist, but if the audience can't understand what's happening or have any interpretation of the events that occur, it's terribly written.
