Maybe you can suggest a grab bag for people.
I think its crazy for everyone toeach give everyone the same value of unpersonal gifts. Just makes the stores rich.
Maybe have each extended adult couple do the grab bag and just buy for the children?

People have to remember that Christmas is not about the gifts.
Sure, gifts are nice, but don't feel bad if you don't match the gifts given by others.

I give gift cards.

I have friends who have a name draw. The name of every family member is placed in a box. A name is drawn out by each person. Then, the person who drew the name only buys one gift for that one person. Their family enjoys that way of giving gifts. It eliminates the need to buy a lot of gifts.

Besides, your in-laws should understand, you and your husband are a young couple (by comparison to the old in-laws) and need to think of your family budget and saving for retirement.

Too much stuff is bad.

Yeah. A $25 gift card from Walmart is perfect.

I think some folks go overboard when buying beyond their means. If you buy what you are able to buy, and it comes from the heart, don't worry about trying to keep up with someone else's idea of Christmas. I'd rather have one special gift than a dozen that were purchased for the heck of it. Do only what you are able to do or even want to do, and don't feel guilty about it.

Oh yes...and gift cards are great gifts.

The best gift of all is giving of yourself. Babysit for someone, clean their house, rake leaves, clean their car, wash windows, etc.
Well, maybe you are a person that has your hands so full you need that type of help yourself. Then spread the word that's what you would like for Christmas.
Gift cards are great, beats taking something back you don't like.
But above all else don't get yourself head over heels in debt, that's not what Christmas is suppose to be about and all you will accomplish is being stressed out.

Christmas isn't supposed to be about the gifts. Isn't it the thought that counts? Let your in-laws handle their gift giving their way..I'm sure everyone realizes that you are not made of money. It's not a competition. Most people would be thrilled with a gift card. At least then you don't have to worry about returning something.

Yes. That's fine. It sounds like they want to out-do everyone. Just let them have their moment. It's the thought that counts. I'd be perfectly happy with a 25 dollar gift card.

I like the idea of giftcards. I get them for the teens in the family. How about a variation on the cards? Walmart or a Craft store for the ladies, and Sears or Home Depot for the guys.

I think gift cards are the best thing in the world because no matter what they can buy whatever they want or return it if they want!!!!! Go with gift cards! Don't worry about quantity it is all about quality!!!

You shouldn't worry about it because if that's your budget is a $25 gift card, that's fine because it's the thought that matters. Now if that's not your budget still don't worry about it you guys are not in competition.
