Why do some people think anecdotal, even valid statistical backing, always justifies their risking making erroneous presumptions about the motives and intents of others? Since when has being "probably" right, made a person right, and made dismissing others ok? Honestly, what is wrong with some people? Is this part of some exaggerated notion of how sound common sense is supposed to be? Is it suppose to be clever?

Rationalizing is an interesting thought pattern. Juliet did it to decide whether or not to engage in Romeo's affections. Look where it got her and him both...dead. No, rationalizing isn't clever. Rationalizing just makes us feel better. Even if it's just temporary.

Every decision a person makes is based on information with a certain probability of being true- while, theoretically, that probability could be 100%, that doesn't actually occur on a regular basis.

Now, you obviously can't ignore an idea just because a contrary one is slightly more probable, but when it comes to actually making a decision, the idea based on more probable information is usually the one which should be used (that is, if both ideas are meant to achieve the same outcome, and have roughly the same pros and cons otherwise).

The term "common sense" is a true misnomer in this day and age as it is no longer common in and of itself. There is only politically correct, tolerable, and downright rude.

Throwing your hands in the air because you don't have 100% certainty is a good definition of idiocy.
