Favorite Games and Why:
1. Carcassone - easily taught in 5 minutes and lots of replayabilitiy.
2. Wilderness War - one of my favorite conflict simulations. Just trying to figure out how to start beating your opponent is half the fun.
3. Rise of the Roman Republic - love that Roman history.
4. Carabande - Who doesn't love a flicking game?

Settlers of Catan by Mayfair is one of my current favorites. It's a building/trading game where the board is made up of hexagonal tiles and is built anew for each game. The game's difficulty is based on the quality and experience of the players.
Game of Thrones by Fantasy Flight is one of the most innovative board games I've seen in a while. Based on the books by George R.R. Martin, each player leads a Noble House in attempt to claim the Iron Throne. It's a game of territorial expansion, careful planning, and backstabbing. The rules are actually very simple but the planning is tricky as you have to issue orders to each army you have on the map. Better players makes this one way more difficult.
Civilization by Avalon Hill is an old gem. Each player leads a different civilization to victory by building cities, trading commodities, and advancing your civilization with such things as Astronomy, Mathematics, and Metal-working. The only problem I had with Civ was the length of time it took to play which was several hours.
Those are just a few. I have to agree that For the People by GMT Games is also an excellent game. Complex without being complicated.
Happy gaming!

Best game I own would probably be Vinci or Acquire. But that's a really really tough question. Considering that I own some 100+ board games, asking me to choose favorites is hardly fair.
Other top of the list candidates:
History of the World, 3rd Reich, Robo Rally, Scrabble, For the People, Brittania
