I agree with the above answer about being in the "valley". However, your 7.3L IDI has the spin-on style water separator, unlike the later 7.3L DIT which uses the cartridge style, the second poster referred to. A little friendly advice to Dodgeman, if you're going to answer automotive questions, make sure you answer the only the ones you KNOW IS CORRECT. Don't lead people astray.

If properly maintained the 7.3 is a great motor. The transmission depending on what is wrong can cost upward of 1000 even more. Best bet is to try to find a place that you can swap the tranny with one already rebuilt. Get your phone book out and look for transmission repair shops sometimes they have one. You are getting a good price the engine if good is worth more than what you are paying.

dead center of valve covers, has black round cover, which can be removed with a long screwdriver or large channel lock pliers. Filter is made of paper mesh.

look on the bottom side of the right side frame it should be mounted there in a bracket,if im not mistaken,good luck with it.
