Even though, to the untrained eye, prescription medications can look just alike, they are marked seperately. When you go fill a prescription, you know the paper that tells what the medication is, how much to take, what it's for, side effects, etc? There's also a detailed description of what it looks like, and you should ALWAYS check the actual pills against what the paper says, to make sure your pharmacist filled them correctly.
The combination of the color, size, shape, and markings are different for each medication, so if you take them to your pharmacist, he or she should be able to tell you what they are.
I would suggest throwing them out, though. If you don't know what they are, and they were in an unmarked bottle, that doesn't sound like they were prescribed to you, or that you know when they were prescribed (something the pharmacist probably couldn't tell you).
Particularly if you have children or pets, you need to get those things flushed down the toilet pronto. If they got into them, you could call the poison control center and it would be NO help, since you couldn't tell them what was ingested, the dosage, the expiration date, and possibly even how many (the bottle would show quantity, and with a little math, you could figure a maximum amount taken at one time).
If you're curious, fine, look. But don't do it with the expectation of using them.

Potentially toxic, or at least a health hazard. Unlabled medicaments ought to be destroyed by experts. Over here out-of-date preparates (and unlabled ones) are accepted by drug-stores for destruction.
