I' almost drowned once while tubing in a river,
almost got my head squashed while sledding on
a metal disk, and was involved in several car
accidents (not my fault).

Tell me your stories of narrow brushes with
death you've had!

October 2004. My clock alarm went off, I attempted to reach for it and realized I couldn't move a muscle....I was incapacitated for at least an hour....Here I am thinking I must have had a stroke, so my next thought was to call someone...Either 911 or my son.I had to will myself to reach for that phone..It took at least an hour for me to reach for it which was right next to my bed......I called 911 and my son. I let them know that the alarm was on in the house and what had happened to me, next thing I knew, the fire department was coming thru my bedroom window, to rescue me....I thought of my alarm because I didn't want them to knock my front door down and then take me to the hospital...( I live alone) While they were taking my vitals, my son rushed in...The ambulance told him they would be taking me to the hospital....I was out of it by then......I was taken to 1 hospital and when they realize what the problem was I was rushed to the # 1 hospital in the world where they commenced to do Brain surgery...I had an aneursym...2 blood vessels had burst in my brain. After 9 hours of surgery the best neurosurgeon in the world had saved my life...a doctor that took great pride in his work had saved me... I love him...I always say the Lord always send the best people in my life...When I woke from this ordeal I could not walk, I could not talk and I was blind in my left eye. Excessive rehabilataion got me back on my feet, speech therapy got me talking again and for my eye, I am not blind in it, I found out it is just a blind spot ...The Lord is good to me....You can go through such an ordeal and survive, I am living proof...but the world is such a different place now, and so much is not important anymore..When I got better my son took me out to dinner and told me all that went on when this happened, because a lot of it I was unaware of at that time, he is such a responsible young man, and I LOVE HIM...ALWAYS. don't ever say anything bad can't happen to you because it can...I am the 5th person in my family to have an aneurysm but the only survivor, I am truly blessed...THANK YOU LORD and all the people who stood by my side....

I was driving the speed limit on the freeway one night. Traffic was light. There was a car several yards in front of me. I noticed another car merge into traffic lanes to the right. All of a sudden, the car in front of me came to a complete stop! I swerved to avoid hitting it. My car began to fish-tail - I crossed at least three lanes of traffic. I must've made a complete revolution because I ended up hitting a tree on the side of the freeway. In the blink of an eye, I ended up facing the wrong way! It all happened so fast. When I realized what had happened, I started crying. I was alive! I thought my car was totaled, though. Moments later, a couple stopped on the freeway to ask if I was ok. The man got out of his car and stopped two lanes of traffic so I can get out of the brush. My car started instantly. I rolled down the window to thank the good Samaritans and drove home. I was very thankful that I was not hurt and thankful of the couple that helped me on the freeway.

A few years ago, I was crossing a street with the green light and inside the crosswalk, when a car in the opposing left turn lane went ahead and made their turn. One minute--nothing; the next--the car was heading straight for me! I had no way of dodging, and the car couldn't stop (I later found out that they didn't see me because they were watching for other cars). I was struck in the calf, bounced about ten feet, and got bruised and scraped up pretty badly. I wasn't scared at all, even though I knew that this could be the end for me. If the car hadn't started its turn from a full stop, it -would- have been the end!

Driving home from night shift on a rainy morning, about 7 a.m., north on I-95, very tired, up all day with toddlers, worked all night, someone pulled in front of me from an on ramp and I hit the breaks and spun three times, ended facing oncoming traffic (tractor trailers, buses, speeding drivers) and somehow made it over to the median strip without getting hit, sat in the car crying hysterically. If I had not had my seat belt on, I probably wouldn't be answering this question right now.

The most memorable occurred at work. I am a railroader, which can be a dangerous and unforgiving profession. Once I narrowly missed being run over by a yard train in a yard at night in the winter. There were no lights on this train and I hadn't seen it. What I can only describe as an invisible, powerful hand literally stopped me in my tracks as I walked, seconds before the train whipped by

I take an inhaler for asthma One morning when everyone was asleep,I was getting ready for work. I took out my inhaler (without a cover) and took a deep breathe in to get all the medication in, all of a sudden I was gasping and couldn't catch my breathe, something was in my throat, I keep gaging and banging my back against the wall I was trying to give myself the Heimlich maneuver,When all of a sudden this little ball of silver paper came up. I sat there and cried. I called work and said I would be late. I never want to experience that again. So I make sure to keep the cap on and check & double check it before use.

I almost got hit with a car. When the car stopped it squeked really loud and it was only 1 or 2 inches away from me. I was going to school and this bus for disabled people was going really fast. I was in the middle of the road when it was coming. I ran to the other end. If I didn't I was going to get hit. Also, this guy in my building was probably drunk driving and I was crossing when he just like almost crashed into me if I didn't run. Man, God saved me alot of times, didn't he?
