No it does not hurt just feels a bit strange. The exam is well worth it as it is very important for a mans well being to be sure the prostate gland is OK. If the doctor finds anything early its easily treated.

First time you are anxious, but you'll soon find it is no big deal. He will ask you to drop your pants and shorts, and bend over the exam table. He will glove up, slap on some KY on his finger, and slide it in and out in about 5 seconds or so, then wipe off the excess. Doubt he would get a stool sample unless you have some reason for that.
Very likely you will give a urine sample, you do that in private.

I haven't had a rectal exam yet but I think my doctor may start soon.
I don't have to give a stool sample but before he starts my physical I go into the bathroom and pee in a cup.

I think what you are talking about is a colonoscopy... right.. I have had several and I advise ALL men/women to have them... No.. it does not hurt.. The ONLY BAD PART is the day before.. You are given a horrible liquid to begin taking in t he afternoon and no eating for a period of time until the colonoscopy has been performed. NOW.. when you go in(YOU have to show proof that someone is on standby to drive you home.. If you do not have, they will make you stay there for many hours)... There are two ways to do it..\
a) They can "put you under and you will not feel a thing).
b) You can elect(as I always did) to NOT be given any injections to put me under. In other words, I was awake the whole time and the ONLY time there was discomfort was when they run that visual thing up a certain distance and it has to make a CURVE in one of your intestine areas.. I just hold my breath and it only lasts(that part) about 6 seconds... If you are not afraid, it is interesting to stay awake and watch the whole thing on the camera that they have there so the doctor can see what is going on and you can also watch.. Actually, it is more interesting than watching the Jerry Springer show

they usually take urine samples, but stool specimens are not common unless you have some serious stomach condition. Stool samples are not taken in office, they give you a plastic container and you go home & load it up & bring it back.
Just ask the doctor to go SLOWLY & GENTLY & use PLENTY of lube. I advise you to do a home enema first on that day to clean your insides.
If doctor is gentle & easy, I think it won't hurt at all - in fact, you might even enjoy his finger in your rectum. It's not such a bad feeling, really.
good luck - but don't allow any female doctor to see U or touch U that would be a total humiliation & disgrace. I would shove her away firmly if she tried to handle me. I'd curse her out, too.
cheers.

It was VERY invasive. Just relax and let him do his thing, and it will be over before you know it. But it is a weird feeling, and to me was uncomfortable.
