Homemade dishwasher detergent
1 Tablespoon Borax
1 Tablespoon baking soda
or equal amounts of each
You can add oxyclean or a generic type. Add one drop of Dawn.

You can't substitute any other soap in the dishwasher because the soap is not formulated for the dishwasher's cycle. You'll have problems with excess suds and your dishes will not get cleaned properly. Wash the dishes by hand if you need to.

Maybe oxyclean, not laundry detergent. It will suds up and get all over your floor.

No! It will froth up and ooze out of the dishwasher and bubble all over the kitchen floor. This is a good way, however, to finally wash the kitchen floor!

I did that once and ... well... let's just say my daughter had hours of fun playing in the suds... and I spent hours cleaning it up... and my wife spent hours cooling down.
Don't do it!
