No I don't feel it is a bad idea, one just has to be careful doing so. A dog could turn on you or accidentally bite you going after the other dog. Yes I have broken up quite a few dog fights. I have a male doberman, my daughter had his brother and a friend of mine had a brother to them. The one I have is very dominant and has started a fight with the other two ever since they were only months old. Breaking them up then wasn't bad at all, but as they grew into adults every time I had to break them up I know my blood pressure went up.lol But I have never gotten bit. Maybe because they feel I am their pack leader . Still I couldn't or wouldn't stand there and risk the chance of one getting hurt. There was blood shed a few times but all ended well.

I have broken up many a dog fights. You normally get hurt, far more then the dogs. Most of the time the dogs are making more noise then pain. That is until a human gets involved. I make it a rule now if there is no blood, their just getting to know one another. If there is blood I get the water hose out. and stick it in one or the others mouth they let go real quick that way. they can only take on so much water. That way hopefully no one gets hurt, a little wet, but heck thats nothing.

YES,it is an extremely bad idea to try an seperate fighting dogs because when they are fighting, their adrenilin is pulsing through their bodies at an enormous rate and they are SOOOO excited during the fight that anyone who tries to break up the fight stands a BIG chance of not only being biten but attacked as well.
You are a threat to the outcome of the animals process of determining rank and to step in is one big stupid mistake.
I have 2 dogs myself and once in awhile they get into a fight and though I would like to stop the fight (one dog is 14lbs and the other is 41lbs),I have to always remember that the two of them fight lots of times when I am not home and they manage to handle it all by themselves so I let nature take it's course.

Its not a bad idea... but you shouldn't go sticking any of your limbs into the fight, you WILL get bitten. I have not personally had to break up a serious fight... but I have some minor ones. No dogs should be left fighting, ever. But you shouldn't put yourself in danger either.

It is a good idea to break up fighting dogs. If you do it right, you'll get them apart without taking any damage yourself. If it becomes too much of a problem between two of your own dogs, then you may have to keep them separated.

We have 2 female dogs that just don't love each other. They've been in 2 fights...one pretty serious that required vet visits. The best way we've found is to spray them with water...always keep the hose hooked up in our backyard. They are getting friendlier with each other, but after the last doozy of a fight it took a while for them to want to sleep next to each other.

It is a bad idea, and no I have never. I heard that a good way to safely seperate two fighting dogs is to spray them with water. But I guess no one's going to have time to get a hose or bucket of water quickly enough.

It is good idea to break them apart as they are generally not used to pack behavior and will not stop once a victor is determined. In a pack, the loser will withdrawal or show
submissive stance and the fight will stop.

I would say not to attempt stopping unless you know both dogs. Some owners train their dogs to fight to kill.

A garden hose on full will quickly stop most dog fights(from personal experience.)

If they are your dogs, and if your going to break up dogs that are fighting, use cold water from a garden hose, or a glass of ice water.

If they are not your dogs, becareful, because when you get their attention from the water. You don't want them turning on you. If you don't know the dogs, it is always best to err on the side of caution.
