Ladies, what would you wear to a sorority sponsored debutant ball?

Hello,

I am a member of a sorority and I have attended many debutante balls.

The first thing that I would consider is the weather, since this function is more than a month off the best thing for you to use as a guage is the approximate weather at this same time last year and then look to see if you have observed any major differences in the weather patterns this year.

I am also from Al., so I know what you mean about the various possibilities in the temperature, so here is what I would do if I was going to purchase my dress this early.

I would advise that you purchase something that is not too heavy, something that would be appropriate for perhaps the late fall weather rather than the dead of winter. That way you can add a shawl if the weather is a bit cooler and you can leave out a jacket if the weather is not cool and still be more than reasonably comfortable.

The primary guidelines for dress at this type of function are very simple:

1) Dress is formal and should be very tacktful and tasteful on more the level of societally acceptable rather than personally...(especially if you are interested in membership in this sorority.)

2) Your outfit should NOT be white NOR should it be the color(s) of the sorority hosting the affair....again especially if you are interested in membership in the hosting sorority. It should not be white as the participants in the ball are usually in white at least at some point in the program.

3) It should be COMFORTABLE and representative of you taste!

Follow those guidelines and you should be pretty satisfied with what you choose to wear and the response to your choice from others.
