We know seeing super-thin models can play a role in causing anorexia," says Nada Stotland, professor of psychiatry at Rush Medical College in Chicago and vice president of the American Psychiatric Association. Because many models and actresses are so thin, it makes anorexics think their emaciated bodies are normal, she says. "But these people look scary. They don't look normal."

As actresses and models get thinner and thinner, the media always comments on how wonderful they look. Our youth thinks that the thinner they become, the better they will look too. What our young girls are unaware of is how many of these actresses and models have eating disorders, are airbrushed to look perfect, and are not always healthy.
Finally, last month during Fashion Week in Europe, models were sent home for being too thin. I think that sent a great message.

There are such a lot of newspaper 'ethical panic' experiences claiming that skinny celebrities or items 'purpose' consuming problems and frame dysmorphia in adolescent ladies, however I'm slightly sceptical of this concept. It turns out love it's quite simply a celeb attitude to make a wellbeing tale seem extra scandalous and well timed - very similar to whilst violent films or video video games are blamed for a few bad crime. It's transparent to peer that portraits of skinny younger females are lovely ubiquitous on the second, and I understand I've obviously felt pangs of envy in the direction of all the ones toned thighs and slim waists. However, I actually think that the ones insecurities are my possess, and no longer 'brought on' (regardless that might be brought on) by means of portraits of skinny celebrities. If I had been utterly relaxed in myself, I would not be stricken by means of the ones portraits. I consider it is very irresponsible whilst reporters outright blame skinny items/celebrities for the superiority of consuming problems. There are many exclusive mental causes why humans have consuming problems, and I believe many patients could be indignant by means of the concept that they do that considering the fact that of a useless want to resemble Keira Knightley (or whoever). I was once bulimic for a while, and I positioned this right down to my possess insecurities. Adolescent ladies mainly have a tendency to be aggressive or have a want to thrill others, and this may mainly show up in jealousy of or a want to resemble others who appear to 'have all of it', however I nonetheless do not believe that superstar snap shots CAUSE those insecurities.

If you have young or impressionable mind, you can be taught that abnormally thin is beautiful. Especially, if these same images are seen in all the mags and on tv. I think anexoria goes a little deeper but there are degrees to which a person can have an eating disorder.

Yes they can. But it depends on the girl. I have friends who thinks she can never be thin enough and it worries me. She is skin and bones. We are trying to get her help right now. However on the other you have me. I am not skin and bones but I am thin. I have nice figure and plenty of confidence and I don't care about hollywood. They can't seem to set a decent example in any arena. Marriage, raising kids, weight, whatever it is; it is never good. But my poor friend wants to be so thin and she keeps trying to loose weight and she really has no more weight to loose! So in my point of view it depends on the girl, her self-esteem, and self confidence as to how much hollywood will effect her.

there was a video i saw once and it showed the process of a model going through makeup. it started w/ a fairly average-kinda on the ugly side girl and turned her into the hottest thing around, but it showed all the photoshop and makeup.
