Republican Evangelist; like Reverend Haggert proclaimed to be right during interview with Tom Brokaw on national TV. Elected officials who were followers have the same conviction of being right.

I suppose one could argue that both of them are, in their different ways.
I have always considered Democrats scarier. At least Republicans are up front (most of the time), for example, being against gay marriage, and things like that.
The Dems couch their authoritarianism in phrases which make them sound "compassionate" and "caring" and "progressive" and the like. To me, that's VERY frightening, when I see what they do - raise taxes, try to nationalize health care, regulate business to death in the name of protecting the environment, etc. People then seem to think that the Dems are really just concerned for the "common good," and will buy anything the Dems try to sell them.
Incidentally, the Nazis and the Commies were all about "the common good." In the name of the "common good" they killed scores of millions of people.
