Are you wanting them to Date other Sims? to get married to someone?
Yes, making them hate each other works fine, moving out is fine. But if all you want is them to "move on to someone else" then just do it, no need for all the extra steps.

You don't have to go through all the hassle of having them irritate each other or cheat on each other and fight if you don't want to. And even if you do that, they will still be living together in the same house, just hating each other and being miserable.
Instead you can have the Sim you want to leave use the computer or newspaper and choose "find own place". It will pop up a box asking if you're sure you want that Sim to leave the household. Click yes and soon a taxi will come to take the Sim away. That Sim will be available in the Family bin for you to choose and move into a new lot if you want.

To break up a marriage cheat....on the spouse.....make sure they catch you.........and do this often....and then fight, argue irritate.....and soon enough.....the marriage will end. If you move out they are still married.......

Just have them fight with each other. If she doesn't want a backrub, have him give her backrubs all day. Eventually she'll have nothing to do with him. Or vice versa, works both ways.
