I think it's because they seem to contain the promise of something, perhaps an adventure, or a break with the familiar. Especially long distance train trips. And there's nothing like that whistle to conjure up images of a frontier.
The reality is a little less sexy sometimes. I caught a train from Beijing to Kowloon, and because there was snow on the tracks and we had to keep stopping, it was just endless, took 36 hours instead of 24. Plus it was night time so there was nothing to see. Not to mention the snoring ;-)

I agree trains are very romantic. But I've never had a romantic moment on one. Sounds nice.

The soothing sounds and the scenery flying past you are very beautiful. I've never had a romantic moment on a train, though.. too bad.

stressful to declare for constructive. it may be like Amtrak used to declare, "there is something some practice it is magic." I for one will upload that some years in the past I took the practice around the rustic. 2 weeks with fairly some stopovers. It replaced into the fairly some ultimate money I even have ever spent in my existence!
