In an interview with MTV, the band said that the name "The Black Parade" was chosen due to a belief that death comes to individuals as their most powerful memory. The main character in the concept went to a parade with his father at a young age, therefore death comes to him as a "Black Parade".

Its about a dude called "the patient". "The Patient" dies and death comes to him in the form of a parade. MCR believes that death comes to you in your fondest memory. Death came to "the patient" by a parade, which is "the patient's" fondest memory

its about a man dying at a devestating young age and hes scared of whats gonna happen to him after he dies. when he starts to die his last and fave memory is him and his father goin to the pararde so thats how death comes for him.
