If by the long kind, you mean florescent, then the rest of the folks may be correct in recommending a new fixture. If it has more than two bulbs, however, it may be more economical to replace the ballast than to replace the entire fixture. In most two or four bulb florescent fixtures, the ballast, (that's the big black box located under the center section of the fixture between the bulbs), runs two of the bulbs. If there are four bulbs there will be two ballasts, two bulbs - one ballast. The ballast to run two of the bulbs will normally run about $20 - $25. If you're interested in doing the replacement yourself, email me and I'll send detailed instructions.

You have a fluorescent light fixture. There are 3 issues that can cause this problem.1. The bulb is defective(but you changed it so lets scratch that one).2.The connectors that click into bulb to the fixture are not all the way in.(just take out the bulb and re-click in).3.The hot wire is loose and barely making a connection(shut of power and inspect wiring on fixture connections.repair if nec)

If you can find the same exact fixture with the same mounting
holes, you're better off buying a new one and replacing the old
one. Usually 2 screws and 2 wire nuts and you're good to go.
Install first with no bulbs and then put the bulbs back in. I took
my own advice after the 3rd time.

get a new fixture perhaps it is worn out. keep ur receipt in case that is not it and take it back. seems to me if u changed the bulb and that didn't work it must b the fixture. That is why home depot has people to ask ?s to.
