Normally the system fails to boot and shuts down before loading into Windows when the heat sink of the Processor is bad or not seated well. This makes the processor to get heated-up and shuts down the computer. If you can boot into Windows in Safe mode, then the problem is not with the heat sink. In that case, you can scan the system for Virus and Spyware and then try booting in normal mode.

If the system does not boot in Safe mode also, you need to contact the service center and get the Processor and heat sink fixed.

I had the same problem not too long ago. It could be any one of a number of fatal errors e.g. hard drive, peripherals. Windows is set to automatically reboot when it encounters a fatal error, but it gets stuck in a loop when it encounters the error over and over.

If your friend get get into Safe Mode and switch off the automatic reboot sequence, then instead of restarting, the screen will show a blue screen, which will help determine exactly what the error is.

Click on start and quickly click on the anti-virus program, or the anti-spyware program, it may run and you can clean the virus from the computer. If this does not work, then click on start and quickly click on internet explorer. This should get the computer to stay on so she can see if her clean-up programs take care of this or if she needs to back-up files to return things to normal. Hope it is something simple like this. Best of luck to you!

Could be a virus.

Would be best to use a boot disk to do a virus check and a disk check for any bad sectors (chkdsk).
