Yeah, I saw that too, "can't fly a flag because it might offend a minority group."
Snort.
And they said the British never would be slaves.

It's offensive to some sections of people. The union jack is the flag of Great Britain and is made up of the flags from england, scotland and Northern Ireland which are all countries in thier own right. There are groups in each of these countries who are indigenous to their respective country who dont belive in great britain and consider themselves scottish, irish and english rather than british.
There are also countires around the world that have a small icon of the union jack in their own flags such as Australia and new xealand there also also pelple in thouse countries that would prefer that not to be.
What is an outrage is the people who are not british but live here and find it offensive and ask to have it removed. These people should f.uck off back where they came from if they find it so offensive or shut up as the likelihood is that they would prefer to live here coz its so **** in their own country.

Do you mean the flag itself, or the term 'Union Jack'?
If you mean that the Union Flag is offensive to people when flying, I acn see why it's an outrage. If people find it offensive, why bother living here? Best go to a country where the Union Flag isn't around (which places are limited). If the immigrants find it offensive, well.. they can just bugger off back home and deal with their own flag.
But...
If you mean it's offensive about using the term 'Union Jack'.. it isn't so much as an outrage. Because the proper name is Union Flag. It is only called Union Jack when it's hoisted on a ship. Other times, it's properly known as the Union Flag, but colloquiallo it's also known as the Union Jack.

The Union Jack Flag is the National Flag of England and I do not find the Flag offensive.
The UK is our strongest Friend and supporter.
Much of the Worlds exploration was accomplished by the British.
Mainly because the British were great sailors.
At one time, one half the worlds population was under British control.
Despite our revolution in 1775 and ultimate victory, we have maintained many of the fundamental principals of Law used by the British legal system. British Common Law.
I believe that some people are focusing on the negative aspects of British rule over a span of centuries.
Yes, there are many incidents where the British rule denied people their basic human rights, that we take for granted today.
However, The United Kingdom of today is a far different from the United Kingdom in the 1600-1800 time era.
Thank you.

sorry MAV you are totally wrong the UNION JACK is not the flag of ENGLAND it is the flag of the UNITED KINGDOM comprising of SCOTLAND ENGLAND IRELAND and WALES get your facts right before you comment on our flag. the flag is associated with the BRITISH NATIONAL PARTY that is why some people don't like it. but it really represents the union with the other three countries which form the UNITED KINGDOM. ENGLAND is but one of those countries. in the union. the flag of ENGLAND. is the ST. GEORGE flag.

As I've explained to you before it's become associated with racists like yourself. It's not the union flag people find offensive but the thugs who hid behind it.

The majority don't see it offensive. It is one of the many issues that we have to debate as part of a great democracy that doesn't kick people out of the country just because they find some of their views offensive.
Calm down dear and have a cyber pint on me!

If anybody in Britain is offended by the Union Jack, then all I can say is that they are living in a funny bloody place. There are plenty of others to choose from and I offer a colour swatch on the following site:
http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/
I invite the offended to pick one that is more to their liking and bugger off there pronto.
