No civil unions isn't banned. In 2000 over 60% of voters handed a prop (prop 22 on the time) that defined marriage as between a guy and a lady purely. Civil unions were by no potential banned. very last three hundred and sixty 5 days, judges overturned the vote for the three hundred and sixty 5 days 2000 proposition. Prop 8 is attempting to reinstate what replaced into already voted on in 2000 formerly judges overturned the vote.

No. Eliminate the government and the state from private matters all together. Terminate ALL forms of Civil Marriage (straight or otherwise). Keep the "electeed officials" (i.e. politicians) out of our private lives. So long as anyone must go to a public office to seek permission (marriage license) to marry and register their private identifying data thereafter for everyone to see and steal, it's just wrong. Return marriage to a private contract between individuals of whatever sex.

I am against calling it one thing for same-sex couples and another for opposite-sex couples. On a "legal" level, it should be called "civil unions" for everyone, and personally you can call it "marriage" if you feel like it. But if the argument is that "marriage is intended by god..." then the government should get the hell out of it altogether.

YES! I'm in UK too and think its ridiculous to refuse civil partnerships, even if religion is against it.

I think everyone should be in support of this issue, this is America after all! Is this a place for equality for all, or only if you are straight?

I'm completely for it, but I just think it's ridiculous it would have to be called that just because bigots, meaning OTHER people, don't like the idea of gay "marriage".

Yeah, sure. Let the homos get AIDS together and die. That's OK with me. As long as they don't brag about their relationship to me, let them rot.
