There is a very large, very dead oak tree about two feet from my property line. This lot is vacant and overgrown. With every wind more limbs and very large branches fall into my yard. I can move these daily but with Florida hurricanes I concerned this tree will land on my roof?

I'm afraid to have it removed because it is not on my property. If I call the County do you think they will contact the owner or will they have it removed and bill the owner. I certainly don't want to incur this expense myself.

Send the owner a letter, preferably from a Lawyer, to put him on notice that you fully intend to hold him liable for damages should the tree damage you or your property during a wind storm. A healthy tree blown over in a wind storm is an act of God and your homeowners ins would cover the damage, a dead tree blowing over is an act of negligence and the owner of the vacant lot could easily end up in court. The owner could be found in public records.don't count on the county, but try them anyway, the tree is not only a hazard to others it is also an eyesore to the neighborhood, maybe they can help. Good luck

In most places it is against the law to do work on property you don't own without a contract. Call the county or a lawyer.

I'm with Robert J G.
Get an attorney to write them a letter.... etc
Also, SOMEBODY pays taxes on that lot, so go through the Tax Assessor's office to find the owner's name & address.

You could let the tree stand there and let it fall on your house and sue the land owner.

I would start with the city/county. They should be able to help you out.
