Firstly the UK has four different Nations each with a different legal system (Scoland, Wales, England and Ireland), there is no lwa in any the prohibits the flying of a flag specifically, however, some peole may fall foul of local building codes etc.
I personally fly the Salitre (The scottish flag) on my property and feel that it is one of the many patrotric things that we would do well to incoporate from the USA.

The council can ask you to take a flag down for health and safety reasons i.e being that the flag must be on a vertical pole only, which is great from the ground but flags from houses are normaly on pole sticking out at 45 degree angle. I say the union flag should be flown all the country with PRIDE.

No however there are certain rules or etiquette pertaining to fllying the flag and these can be sought from the home office or your local council.
The flag post has to be a certain height ,the flag has to be of a certain dimension, it has to be raised at dawn and down at sunset. You cannot fly another flag higher than the union jack with the exception of the queens personnal flag.
No part of the flag can touch the ground while it is being raised , or lowered etc Just rules like this etc etc
If you dont abide by these rules then you can be asked to take it down, asked being the operative word.

its not a legal thing, though the police have on occasion requested people to remove national flags, especially in areas with a dense ethnic population to avoid offence. Speaking personally this really annoys me (being polite here). As several council offices have forbidden christmas decorations in case it offends muslim workers there, well say i, what about christian rights to celebrate important dates in their faith. I feel far too many concessions are made in the name of political correctness, and the english way of life is suffering for it. But until the majority make theyre voices heard nothing will be done about it, and i don't mean the ranting of people like the BNP or the National Front, it's about time ordinary people stood up and said "we want christmas and we want it in England and we'll fly the English flag" after all we live in England not Pakistan or India.

Why do you persist in asking questions intended to stir up racial hatred?
I'm sure you know perfectly well that there are legal requirements to the flying of the union flag precisely because it is a national flag and has to be treated with respect.
Unfortunately both it and the English flag, which has no such restrictions on it's use, have been appropriated in recent decades by racists like yourself. However I've noticed during and since the world cup the English flag flying in black and Asian parts of town.

Well, I don't know about the UK. In America, they (the ACLU) want
our flag removed from the classrooms and they won"t allow the
American flag on a flagpole in some housing additions and in
some mobile home parks, but they think it's okay to spit on, wear,
or set fire to the flag anywhere and anytime. That's why we need to
kick the ACLU out of America as most citizens disagree strongly
with their actions.

We have been suppressed by these politically correct minority. When we were in the european cup final though, when the REAL PATRIOTIC BRITS decorated their homes AND THEMSELVES IN THE UNION JACK AND THE ENGLISH FLAG, I don't think anyone would have dared to ask us to take it down. Yes, we are gradually losing our identity. What gets me, is we are having to conform to what they want, and I hate it. You wouldn't find that in the USA. One person had to take a little pig ornament out of their window in case it offended muslims near her. Yes you did hear right.

What is the Western World coming to, when citizens of a country cannot put their flag up in their country for fear of offending people from another custom or belief? Political Correctness in the West has taken a ridiculous and dangerous path.
But we allow it, or should I say we allow ourselves to be bullied into it, and we are made to feel uncomfortable in our own homes.

Depends on the area. When Lady Diana Spencer died people were shouting that the Queen(HM) take the flag down and she refused at first. But when the mob got near Buckingham palace, Crazed on crack and Afghan weed, she looked through the window and said," Let them eat coke".
No it wasn't coke. That was that film. No, she said to Prince Philip, "The peasants are revolting" And he looked through the curtain and he told her to remember what happened to that lot in France.
That is when they took the flag down. So you see, sometimes its got to go. Get me?
