Women are far more equal -- and sometimes superior, than you give yourselves credit. You need to review the portion of whichever texts from which you're learning regarding "Hunter/Gatherer." In Western culture, women fair far better than in Eastern and Middle Eastern. Here, we have laws governing and regulating men's activities giving women more power and opportunity. Title IX is a classic example of this.
Oh these times they are a changin'. For years, in the more traditional hegeomonic society, men were absolutely expected to go out and get a job. If the family failed financially, it was purely on the man's shoulder. Women, were to stay at home, tend to the children and maintain the household. Having been a "Stay at home dad" I can honestly tell you that while I found it to be extremely frustrating -- I'd get the house spotlessly clean and have dinner on the table waiting. She and the kids would come home and in and instantly all of my efforts were wiped out, life was a lot easier and less stressful than when I was working outside the home.
The grass ALWAYS appears greener on the other side. And as for glass ceilings, please. I cannot begin to tell you the number of times I was passed over for promotion simply because I was either the wrong sex or the wrong color. Political correctness and affirmative action will take their toll. I would much rather be awarded and rewarded for my abilities than for some token reason beyond anyone's immediate control.
When my first wife divorced me, and was awarded full custody of our son, I was told I would make a bad parent because I am a male and was in the military. She was given $638 a month child support. Within months, she abandoned our son -- it took me three years to get him back and in the end, all she had to pay was $100 a month child support. And she never did pay it. You never hear about the dead beat moms. Just the dads. Politics? You bet. So, now, who has it better?

For twenty two thousand years -- give or take a millennia or so -- The Great Goddess was in charge. Life on the planet was under her bailiwick, and all the archeological evidence of those distant ages suggest it was her rule which predominated. The evidence suggests that during her reign, there existed a vision of life expressed as a living unity; the perception of a universe. Life was an organic, living, and sacred whole, wherein humanity, the Earth, and all life on Earth were all woven into a single cosmic web. Roughly four thousand years ago, The Great Goddess became associated with “Nature”, a chaotic force to be mastered. The male God took to the role of conquering or ordering this chaotic Nature into a structured law and order. The spiritual and physical worlds were separated, and by implication, mind was separated from matter, soul from body, thinking from feeling, intellect from intuition, and reason from instinct. The Goddess, to all extents and purposes, went underground, dropped out of sight, and retreated behind a dark veil. The feminine principle, which had manifested in mythology as “the goddess” -- the values placed on spontaneity, feeling, instinct and intuition -- were thus lost as a valid expression of the sanctity and unity of life. They were not forgotten, perhaps, but they were indeed demeaned, discarded by many, and pushed out of the mainstream.

Patriarchial societies existed long before the Middle Ages. One reason may have been the gender roles that developed in human societies where males were more likely to be out gathering food and hunting animals while females were likely to be less active due to the demands of bearing and raising children. For some reason, the male roles were seen as more important and thus became the guidelines for societal structure.
Another reason is the way that religion and belief began to form during early human societies. Male-oriented deities may have been seen as more powerful thus their representatives on Earth should be granted the same type of power.
To a certain extent, the increase of women's ability to choose what happens to them is an effect of the technological expansion that has taken place in fairly recent times. It is not always necessary or even desirable to have children in urban settings. The improved ability of women to control their fertililty has, hopefully, provided them with the means that allow them to express themselves and to pursue their own goals.

Actually men have control over women now. They have them working, paying the bills, taking care of the children, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping and somuch more. There is no time for meditation, self realization or anything. Is that life? Is that freedom, is that women liberation? I thought liberation meant freedom and ultimate happiness. Sounds pretty miserable to me. If women want to be liberated they should give men back their jobs and suits and take back their positions as mothers and wives. What's wrong with those most valuable positions. For universal truths go to http://www.stephen-knapp.com

Men have had control over women's lives for many hundreds of
thousands of years...
It is the nature of the beast...
The male has always been the dominant / aggressor sex...
There have been occasional society's in history where the female
has been "almost" equal in some aspects but they have never been in the majority...
How did we get control ?
We are bigger & stronger & more agressive...

They didn't "get" control in the middle ages. Patriarchal societies bacame prevalent several thousand years ago, when humans decided that might makes right, and since men are more powerful physically, women must be inferior.

I feel the way woman are to be treated got twisted. God made Eve to complete Adam. Adam was lonely and God made Eve for his companionship. Somewhere down the line men thought that we were their maides and had no say in life. Not all men but quite a bit of them. We are to be as one. Meaning respect, love, honor, cherish each other. The Bible tell men to love their wife as Christ loves us.

well, mostly women were not educated, so men could, and still manipulate them!!!they also are the stronger sex so they use that too!!in bible times god said 'women obey your husbands'but then jesus came and changed all that!!he changed most of the laws and that is the main reason the jewish priests wanted him out of the picture, because he made them look bad!!remember when a woman had committed adultry and the men got rocks to stone her, jesus said' let he who has not sinned throw the stone!!'[the muslim religion could learn from this, where stoning is still taking place!!]also it was to a man's advantage for women to have no rights[he got all the properties, money whatever!!!]

I'm all for equal rights.
But sexism and racism will never go away because people won't let it go. These things only affect you if you let them.
That's what I think. I was discriminated against at blockbuster the other day, but who cares? I was pissed yes, but I took my bussiness elsewhere. They missed out on $60
