Those would be your navigation buttons (I think). Just go to View, and then make sure all the tool bars are enabled. It should be called the navigation toolbar, but you never know when it comes to IE. I prefer FireFox for my web browser.

Standard Buttons contain the back and forward buttons. You might have accidentally right click on the menu area of your IE explorer and unchecked Standard Buttons and when you logged out and logged in - all the standard buttons would have vanished. Remedy - make the same mistake again - :-) Right Click on the menu area and check the Standard Buttons, you will get your forward and back buttons

Right-click on an empty spot on the menu bar.
Place a checkmark in front of Standard and Address.
That should do it.

try signing on again and hit F11 on top of your keyboard. If that doesn't work, you'll have to play around on the view toolbar
