Once you contact one, theyll immediately evaluate your situationand if its life threatening to you or your kids, theyll arrange to have you removed immediately to a safe house where your spouse wont know or be able to contact you. You will lose contact with all the outside world for a little bit. Once youre safe theyll do more evaluating and find the best way to approach your situation from there but will help you along the way. Basic shelters 101 and hope this helps. You should be able to find one in the phone book or your local church can refer you to one. Good luck

They will give you a safe place to stay for awhile and offer counseling. Groups, and food they will help you find suitable housing if you want to leave your abuser. I worked in a shelter for quite some time. If you are being abused most police will offer you transportation if you don't have a car of your own.

Domestiv violence shelters will place you and your children in a safe confidential place, offer counseling, restraining orders etc. Most of all a saftey plan....Most places have 24 hour hotlines. If you feel you are in immediate danger, please contact one. They will usually pick you up at the local police station and take you to a safe place.
