No the is the part of the engine were the air and fuel inter and exit the combustion chamber were the pistons are. The head gasket is what keeps the gases from leaking out between the head the engine block were the pistons are.

the head gasket is a repuired item on a car. It seals the head against the cylinder block allowing the engine to have compression.
simply put...you have the head...the head gasket..and the engine block...the 3 make the engine work...along with lots of other stuff but this should answer you question.

no, the gasket is the seal between the head and the block. if the head gasket goes out and you over heat the engine you could warp the head. i believe saturns are all aluminum so they are easily warped, so it should be checked and resurfaced if possible.
