Emo was originally a nickname for "emotive hardcore" (type of music), but has evolved into meaning "emotional" because it was misinterpreted, since fans of this music were ususally known for being a bunch of depressed-self-harming-teens with too much free time. It's all stereotypical. But this is what it's known for now. An emo person (like I said stereotypical) would be very depressed, hate the world, including themselves and probabl cry all the time. They've even stereotyped and emo style. Usually "emo" kids dress in skinny jeans, dark colors (but not all black), band tee shirts, and chucks. But, like I said about 5 or so times. IT'S ALL STEREOTYPICAL!!! And it did originally mean "emotive hardcore". (and if some one dresses like that it doesn't mean they're gonna go suicidal!)
The word "gothic" was originally used to descibe works of art that were "dark", which is the meaning, hence how it now descibes people we call "goth".
Gothic is now used as an adjective is ususally used to discribe people who wear all, or mostly black. They're usually gloomy. And people think that they do some sort of devil worship. They're sometimes depressed, but everyone can get depressed, so that doesn't really count. Gothic style is: (like I said) all or mostly black, heavy eyeliner, black or odd colored hair. This too can all be stereotypical. Like you can dress "goth" and not worship the devil. You can say you're goth and not worship the devil. There's a goth style music too. It's like a form of rock. Sort of.
But like I said, through this whole thing. Most of this is stereotypical, especially all the "emo" stuff. It's kinda sad how things can get so stupidly out of hand.

Im a Goth, not all emos cut themselves and are depressed because anyone can get depressed and cut. I used to cut and suffer from depression and used to be an emo, but that was just a coinsidence. They don't all have side fringes either, I didn't have a side fringe and neither did a few emos I knew. Emo just means emotional hardcore and that you like to dress a certain way a listen to that music. They tend to express themselves with more colour and "anime" and "kawaii" stuff
Goths express their feelings in the dark way but don't always wear all black, I love every colour and wearing a lot of colour its just they express their feelings dark with art, music, poetry etc. At the moment its the trend for emos, goths and punk to watch "anime" iv watched a few but never Goth into it. Plus there are different types of emos and goths so its hard to judge really.

Don't be so stupid. A goth is someone who hates the world, an emo is someone who has the world hate them.
An emo is more likely to cut or commit suicide than a goth; emo is a phase, goth is a lifestyle

Emo and Goth are different. Emo's DO sometimes cut themselves.. but it all depends on the person. I have a best friend that is Emo, and she wears her hair in her face and dresses in dark colors, and she NEVER cut herself and never will. I am Gothic, and I wear all black, I sometimes wear black makeup, and I have red hair. Just because I'm Goth does not mean that my hair has to be black. I know Goth girls with blonde hair. Emo and Goth are not the same, but we are just people and we are who we are.

Well in my opinion goth is more of a sterotype and they usually do not cut how ever they can, they are also a more so society like a religious group. Well now for emo they are said they have to CUT thats not so im emo ive never cut and never will, my friends not like that i am but my school doesnt have very many goth or emo kids so we have to fit in anywere we can, but we do not all cut and please stop saying that we do.
In my opinion the difference is that obe has usually had a messed up past (emo) and one just dresses in mostly a dark outfit (goth). Thanks for reading.

Honestly to me "emo" isn't about how you dress it's about how people feel inside. I used to be emo and somewhat still am. I don't dress all dark and black. I dress normally act happy and try to be normal. Of course there's a lot of depression I deal with and yes I used to cut. But not any more. Emo people yes sometimes dress dark and are far but not every emo person is like that! In my opinion the gothic people dress dark and are dark hate everything and everyone most emo hate themselves and their life... Which is normally why they harm themselves. I hate it when people tell me that emo's dress dark and cut like we all have to dress dark and **** it's not true anyone can be emo and you not know it. My best friends never knew I was emo.

Hey I used to be what was called Emo for about 3 years so please listen agnostic ecsecialy ( sorry for misspell I have minor case of dyslexia)
Now anyone who is classed as Emo (oh the cruel label system) is usually depressed and perhaps suicidal (I had those thoughts so yea :s) and there are black Emos too and not all are rich, I was poor until I turned 18(5 years after my "emo phase") and they do not have a certain kind of hair nor do they cut theirselves or wear skinny jeans, those they can choose to do and in case some people thought emos where just guys there are girl emos too. All in all being "emo" is a mental state of self isolation and depression, do not make them worse, do not critisise them for no reason
Goths are unknown to me

Yes Goth is a lifestyle, & emo is a fashion statement. Goth goes back to ancient history. It is a culture. It started out as an artistic movement. Look up gothic architecture. Think about Edgar Allen Poe. Nightmare Before Christmas. Look up Bauhaus's- Bella Lugosi's Dead. Goths are known to be artistic. We are not a cult, nor a religious affiliation, & goth is not a phase. We are not violent, depressed, nor self harmful. OH OH OH....& WE DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT...DRESS IN COSTUMES. We are simple, peaceful, & black humorous human beings. It's something you don't grow out of. As for me, I am more the vintage/victorian type of goth. I am into dark/bold colors, florals, and antiques. I enjoy nature. As far as " religious views", I tend to lean towards spirituality. I believe in the undead, & reincarnation. My husband is more of the anime goth. We don't do any rituals, we don't cast any spells, & we don't write in journals/do poetry. We are simple gothic human beings, attending to nature & enjoying life. And yes we do drink tea, & live on a pescetarian diet. :D Hugs, love, & wickedness. Happy trails.

Emo's are just kids who listen to emotional music, or CAN be depressed, and where dark colors. just newscasts your depressed didn't mean your emo, and just because you're emo doesn't mean your depressed,
Goth is more of a lifestyle
either way they are misunderstood, and often criticized
