Any idea of what it could be? If you know , is it safe to drive? Beside the annoying factor, how long before I have to get it repaired. will it be costly?

Thanks...

The cheapest fix to try is to check your power steering fluid. If the level is low adding fluid may stop the noise. The bad news is that if your fluid is low it is leaking out somewhere and you will have to have it fixed at some point. If this is the case you can safely postpone the fix for a short time by keeping fluid in the pump. If the noise quits or changes when you apply the brakes its probably your brakes and you should have them fixed as soon as you can.

Many times, the problem like this is due to the WRONG fluid in the steering system. Use ONLY genuiune SUBARU power steering fluid. Oil change centers sometimes think they are doion you a favor by topping up your fluids, but they have NO CLUE whethere the fluids they are ussing is compatible with what the car maker designed in!!! Go to SUBARU dealership, and let them EXAMINE your fluid at the check in counter. Many times, they will top it up, or at least TELL you if the right fluid is in there! They shouold examine for FREE!!! Try a few dealers first. GOOD LUCK!

Unless you know how to take it to a garage. Apply some rack and pinion oil and turn the whell to work it in. The squeek should go away after a couple tries.

Have you replaced the timing belt? If so, then it might need to be adjusted or the rotors need to be replaced. I drive a Mazda and have had similar problems as of late.
