What keys make shapes on the keyboard...for a Windows Laptop?

I've seen on Myspace and places where people can make hearts and things by their display name...How do they do that, what keys do they use...and I'm not talking about this- <3...its an actuall looking heart, completely filled in with black...Thanks Wendy

Hold down ALT and put in a few numbers in in the number pad, eg:

ALT + 0178 = ²

Alternatively you can go Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map for a big list of them all
