Are you referring to people who live in North or South America?

I've done a bit of travel in my days and have to say that even though Americans add the abusive terms to their debates more prevalently than other cultures....we are not the only ones that use such terms.
As to why ppl do it...my guess would be because of our passion for the topic being debated. When a topic is debated and the adrenaline starts pumping, the body chemistry changes, this effects our brain functions and what effects the brain, effects our body language and our speech. The more heated the debate gets, the more the adrenaline, the more changes to our chemistry...etc, to where, finally, childish terms pop outta the mouth, directed towards the person who inflamed our senses in the first place.
Unfortunately the schoolbell doesn't eva seem to stop ringing for any culture in general. Certain individuals can control themselves better than others and some train themselves better than others to be able to debate more maturely. But not everyone has that capability. American culture prides itself on freedom...this is to include our freedom of speech, however, not all of us train ourselves to use that freedom of speech properly (as you can tell by some of the lyrics to todays music...yikes) and unfortunately some of our debates reflect some of those lyrics we hear on the radio. Not much to be proud of there, no, but, in a society that promotes freedom, we leave the option of self control up to the individual.
My advise is, if you get yourself into a debate with someone who turns their words towards abuse, get out of it or laugh it off. Don't take offense from their words...they obviously have strong feelings about what they're debating, they just don't have the schooling or self discipline to show it properly.
ding...class dismissed :0)

When a person can't argue a point, or find they are on the losing end of a debate...I guess one resorts to the word "moron" as an answer..

I totally agree with you, hopefully they will stop it when they grow up. It is not socially acceptable and could cause issues when another "moron" bops them one in the nose for calling them a "moron".. ....I'm referring to the word "moron" not a Country..please be clear on that.

The poorly- educated always use terms of abuse, because they have no wisdom to work with.
